The Cultural Chapter of the Chian Federation is pleased to announce the publication of an eyewitness account of the Chian Massacres of 1822, The Greek Exile by Christophorus Plato Castanis. The book written in English in 1851, has been published in both its original English language and a Greek translation.

Summary

Chios, Spring of 1822. An 8-year-old boy, Christophorus Plato Castanis, sees thousands of Chians killed or sold into slavery during the massacres at Chios. He is captured by the Turks, sold several times as a slave before managing to escape. With the help of American philhellenes, Castanis is educated in the United States where he lectures extensively on the cause of the Greek Revolution.
